Tours by Locals Hong Kong | Hong Kong Government Public Service Message, they can very amusing
The Hong Kong Government churns out seemingly thousands of bizarre public service messages every year and you can see them in all of our MTR (Subway) Stations.
Sometimes it is hard to fathom the reasoning and logic behind the messages but 3 things seem to apply to all of the messages.
The Hong Kong Government treats us, the public as if we are 5 years old...
They love to what I call “cartoonise” serious messages by using happy cartoon characters which is simply stupid
They can be very amusing
The sign below which has been running all over Hong Kong in January and February 2019 is one of the all time classics…
In general most Hong Kongers simply ignore Government Public Service Announcements as they are pretty stupid and we do not like to be patronized but I make a point of reading them all because sometimes they make you cry with laughter!
I mean seriously, look at the image, they really do not want you to pick up a chicken at a wet market and blow the feathers around it’s bum to check the health of the chicken!
What they really mean to say is:
Pick up the chicken carefully, put your face near it’s bum and blow away the feathers, if the bum is all clean and tidy you can safely buy the chicken and have it slaughtered on the spot, if there is any leakage of poop or other bodily fluids from it’s bum then it is not fit for consumption.
Clearly in this advert they passed on showing us this in all of it’s gory glory on the grounds of bad taste.
Only in Hong Kong
ps I am going to stick to buying my neatly cut and packaged chicken from my local supermarket.
I am more than happy to take you to a local wet market on one of my Private Tours of Hong Kong to view how Hong Kongers purchase food, it can be a very interesting experience.
